PCIAC Gets Groovy with Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered

Melissa D’Onofrio

PebbleCreek Italian-American Club (PCIAC) members who attended our club’s March 9 general membership meeting were magically transported back to the 1960s and 1970s by a lively, harmonious, and nostalgic musical performance by PebbleCreek’s own Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered. This relatively new group consists of four very talented musicians and singers: Gene Fioretti (also a member of PCIAC), Carlos Taylor, Katie Croy, and Teresa Tipps. Together they have devotedly rendered Peter, Paul and Mary’s harmonies and guitar parts and reassembled them in a tribute to the group’s tremendous musical talents.

Peter, Paul and Mary, an American folk group formed in 1961 during the American folk music revival phenomenon, became the most popular folk group of the era. Their music spoke passionately to the most relevant issues of the times, such as the civil rights and the Vietnam War controversies. They built a huge following among the youth of the era and many of our members grew up during those tumultuous times.

The audience was entertained with songs such as “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “If I had a Hammer,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” and “Lemon Tree.” Many of us sang along, remembering the words as if it was only yesterday.

The PCIAC is most grateful for the opportunity to be entertained by Peter, Paul and Mary Remembered, and for the immersive journey back to our youth.
