The members of PC Quilters have started off the 2019 year with their first Community Sew Day. The members are committing one Saturday per month to be sure that hospice patients have quilts, veterans’ dogs have beds, heart pillows are given to breast cancer patients, receiving blankets with teddy bears are given to new mothers and other hand sewn projects for persons in the West Valley.
Judy Franks, Donna Aybar and Patsy Smith (community service chairs for 2018) deliver flannel receiving blankets and toy teddy bears to an Abrazo hospital representative. These will be given to mothers with limited resources for their baby. The first Community Sew Saturday in January focused on making receiving blankets.
During 2018, 218 quilts were made and given to designated community organizations. Other sewing projects that were donated included activity mats for dementia patients (17), dog beds (189), Hope Bags for New Life Center (55), walker caddies (17) and 34 bags with toiletries. There was a total of 624 items made and donated by the members. Any residents of PebbleCreek that are interested in coming to the Diamondback Room in the Creative Arts Center on the third Saturday of the month are invited to bring their sewing machine and join in the fun of making items for others.
