Monty Python’s Spamalot auditions
Laurie Farquhar
Imagine a show that includes brave knights, beautiful chorus girls, killer rabbits, flying cows, dancing monks and many dead people. Now imagine being a part of this amazing production. Next spring, ShowTime is presenting the award-winning musical Monty Python’s Spamalot and auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 27, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Tuscany Ballroom.
Spamalot is based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail and, like the film, it is a parody of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It opened on Broadway in 2005 and during its initial run of 1500 performances it was seen by more than two million people. ShowTime’s production will only run six nights from Monday, April 3 to Saturday, April 8, 2017 but, more than likely, it will be very popular with PebbleCreek audiences.
The show has a large cast with 10 principal characters and 20 smaller roles. Karyn Horst, who has directed many of ShowTime’s most popular musicals, will be at the helm of this production. She says that although most of the parts are for men, she has been given permission by the publisher to cast women in some of the roles.
Copies of the audition material and music are available from Assistant Director Louise Dick at [email protected] or 623-536-9643. Louise is also booking audition times.
Come be part of one of the funniest shows to ever hit the Renaissance Theatre stage because you want to “Always look on the bright side of life.”
Nunsense: get your tickets
Carrie Mataraza
Nunsense debuted in 1983 in the basement of The Duplex in Greenwich Village as a cabaret antic. “There was no real story then — just some sketches a friend had written and some songs,” said playwright Dan Goggin, “but people loved it and wanted to know more about the characters.” And that was what inspired Goggin to extend the revue into a full-length theatrical offering which was so successful it ran off-Broadway for 3,672 performances.
Since that time the show has had sequels (Nunsense 2: the Second Coming; Nunsense 3, the Jamboree; Nuncrackers, the Nunsense Christmas Musical, Nunset Boulevard and others including Nunsense: Amen with guys in the nuns’ habits). The original musical was shown on A&E and PBS television and Vicki Lawrence sang Nunsense songs at the Grand Old Opry. Excuse the pun, but that’s how habit-forming this show really can be!
And now this wonderful musical is coming to PebbleCreek, Monday, November 14 through Saturday, November 19. It is directed by one of our ShowTime stage veterans, Judi Alonzo, who also plays Reverend Mother, Sister Mary Regina. She is joined by Pat Ingalls, Sister Mary Hubert; Kathy Mitchell, Sister Mary Robert Anne; Patrice Cole, Sister Mary Amnesia and Alice Lewis, Sister Mary Leo. Each nun is a character unto herself and brings the show to life in so many silly and fun ways you’ll be laughing and toe-tapping throughout the performance.
Nunsense is the first resident production to debut in our newly renovated Renaissance Theatre. Imagine — everything new — décor, comfy seating, upgraded technicals and a hearing loop if you want to use it – all for your enjoyment.
You surely won’t want to miss this special show in all its glory so make a big note on your calendar to have fun with the nuns! Show dates are Monday, November 14 through Saturday, November 19. First day of ticket sales is October 15 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom and thereafter tickets are available at the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk Sales October 17, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. until sold out.
PC Singers “Celebrate the Joy”
Donna Swagger
“Come on along as we celebrate a joyous holiday.
Come on, it’s Christmas!
Let’s sing a song filled with joy and cheer, our favorite time of year;
Come on, it’s Christmas!”
The stanzas of the PebbleCreek Singers opening number say it all, inviting audiences to join in the holiday spirit as the chorus presents their annual Christmas concert, Celebrate the Joy. Performance dates are Tuesday, November 29 through Saturday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre.
Director Gail Kennedy conducts the choristers in a wide variety of numbers that celebrate this festive time of the year. Concert opener Come on, it’s Christmas! is a lively medley comprised of familiar Christmas favorites that sets the tone for an evening filled with seasonal songs for every musical taste. Revisit the 50s and 60s with some great Christmas oldies and doo-wop tunes. Take pleasure in several numbers that combine familiar, well-known songs either with swing, classical or contemporary melodies. Listen to wintry songs that tell of sleigh rides, snowy days and warming up by the fireplace. Enjoy a few brand new holiday songs and some novelty tunes. A beautiful Hanukkah number rounds out this sensational program. The concert closes with Masters in This Hall, a festive Mark Hayes interpretation of a traditional French carol.
Ticket sales begin on Saturday, November 5 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Renaissance Theatre. Plan to arrive early to purchase your tickets and get your reserved seat in the beautiful, newly renovated theater!
