Let there be music, let there be singing! Yes, there’ll be lots of music and lots of singing as the PebbleCreek Singers perform their 2022 spring concert. Dates for the performances are Thursday, April 28, through Saturday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Renaissance Theater.

Good seats are still available. Simply log on to pebblecreekhoa.org, then click on “Things to Do,” then “Tickets.” Scroll down to find PebbleCreek Singers and click to buy tickets. Seats are $16.50 (handling fee included). Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.

The Singers are in countdown mode. April rehearsals will focus on tweaking and fine-tuning any “trouble spots” and “quirky rhythms” to perfect the challenging and diverse program. Director Jerry Drake and the chorus are dedicated to delivering a performance that is the epitome of excitement and entertainment!

The opening number, “Let There Be Music,” gives a hint of what will unfold on the concert stage—a potpourri of musical selections bent on capturing the joy that music brings to our lives. In addition to a wide variety of full-chorus numbers, the concert showcases several small ensembles. Key of She adds some glitz and glam to the stage as these five gals perform “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Remembering the good old days of street corner doo-wop, the Four Kings will sing a medley of ‘50s and ‘60s songs entitled “A Salute to Doo-wop.” The group 8 is Enough will jive, twist, and swim their way through the ‘50s hit song “Rockin’ Robin.” Paying tribute to Linda Ronstadt’s 1977 gold record ballad, Triple Trouble sings “Blue Bayou.” Director Jerry Drake also has some other great surprises in store, including a unique encore. (Yes, there is an encore this time, so be sure to shout “Encore!”)

Following each performance there will be an Afterglow at Toscano’s. Join the Singers for this post-concert social time.

Let there be music in your hearts, friends, and neighbors. Attend this “must hear-must see” concert that features a night of fabulous music and warm memories!

The cast of “We’ll Sing in the Sunshine” are excited for opening night in a few days.

“We’ll Sing in the Sunshine” Opens This Month

Laurie Farquhar

The songs are ready, the dances have been polished, and it is almost opening night for ShowTime’s We’ll Sing in the Sunshine. Do you have your tickets?

We’ll Sing in the Sunshine celebrates American folk music and showcases many of the artists who frequented Washington Square Park in New York City during the early 1960s. The music of Peter, Paul, and Mary; Bob Dylan; and Carly Simon are among the many familiar (and not-so-familiar) songs from that era that will be performed in the show. It also features the musicians’ clash with New York City officials in their quest for the “right to sing in a public space.”

This original production runs six nights from Monday, April 4, through Saturday, April 9, with all performances at 7 p.m.

Although tickets have been on sale for three weeks, there are still a few good seats available. To purchase them, go to the HOA website at www.pebblecreekhoa.org. You do not have to log in; just click on “Things to Do” at the top of the page and scroll down to “Ticket Sales.” Visa and MasterCard are accepted. If you need some assistance with your purchase, please call the box office at 623-251-4158.

The show is reserved seating, and all tickets are $16.50 each, which includes the service fee.

Don’t miss this opportunity to relive the golden era of American folk music, as your friends and neighbors perform many of your favorite songs. And don’t forget to warm up your own singing voice because the audience is encouraged to sing along.

Laurie Farquhar

Love to sing, either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble? Can you imitate a famous comedian? Do you enjoy performing on stage? Then ShowTime’s fall production may be right up your alley, and you are encouraged to try out for this original production.

Written and directed by Chanca Morrell, The Beat Goes On is a musical revue that highlights many of the artists who have been awarded the Kennedy Center Honors. These are musicians, singers, actors, and other performers who have made significant contributions to American culture through the performing arts.

A few of the honorees that Chanca will feature in her show include Garth Brooks, Carole King, and Cher. There will also be numbers from Broadway and film productions.

The Beat Goes On will run six nights from Monday, Nov. 14, through Saturday, Nov. 19. Auditions are scheduled for April 11, 13, and 20, time and location to be determined. For those wishing to audition for a singing part, Chanca asks that you come with a song that works well for you and expresses your personality. If you need background music, she will be happy to get it for you.

For more information about the show itself and to schedule an audition time, please contact Chanca at [email protected].

Since its first award in 1978, the Kennedy Center Honors has honored more than 200 artists, covering almost every genre of music imaginable. The Beat Goes On promises to be an outstanding production of singing, dancing, and comedy, and it will be even better if you are performing on stage with your friends and neighbors.
