Hikers Conduct a Pink Hike

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month; several members of the hiking club have been affected directly by this dreadful disease and others indirectly through friends or relatives. So, how might a hiking club show support for the fight against such a disease? With a hike, of course. On Oct. 16, 16 members of the club got an early start on a 7-mile “Pink Hike” in nearby Estrella Foothills, a short distance south of PebbleCreek, and demonstrated their support by wearing various articles of pink. The hiking club offers hikes appropriate for most levels of fitness; join the club and enjoy the Arizona outdoors with a fun and caring group of people. Visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

Hiking Sedona

Tom Wellman

On Nov. 6 and 7, 13 “C” hikers from the PebbleCreek Hiking Club enjoyed two iconic hikes in the Sedona area; pictured is our group on the West Fork #108 trail on Oak Creek, the most popular hike in the Coconino National Forest. We enjoyed brilliant fall colors on a cool morning surrounded by towering granite cliffs. From left to right are: Dana Thomas, Mary Hill, Kay Thomas, Bruce Brown, Gerry Clipperton, Sandy Mednick, Barb Kripps, Jo Clipperton, Kathleen Brown, Nadine Eder, Joy Raidle, and Nancy Love. Not pictured is Tom Wellman, hike leader and overnight trip organizer.

The second day of hiking was to Devil’s Bridge and the Chuckwagon Trail, with magnificent scenery and ideal fall hiking weather. The PebbleCreek Hiking Club offers 11 to 12 hikes at all levels every week, and details can be found on our website at pchikers.org. Come out and join us for healthy fun and recreation.

Hikers Have Fun at the Dam

Lynn Warren

On Oct. 30, 10 “B” and “C” hikers climbed a steep, rocky trail in scenic Ford Canyon in the White Tank Mountains, the range visible just west of Loop 303. There is interesting history associated with these mountains and at some point in the past, the dam in the upper part of the canyon was used to hold back water; today, however, it holds back only sand and rocks but the trail to this landmark is one of the club’s favorite hikes since Ford Canyon, named for colorful Bert Ford, is ruggedly beautiful but a little challenging in places. However, the hike to the dam must not have been too physically taxing since the hikers enjoyed clowning around during the group photo after a short snack break (or, maybe they just had too much sugar). The hiking club conducts hikes six days a week with several levels of distance and difficulty, so join the hiking club and experience the excitement of interesting and scenic areas you might not visit on your own (and with a fun group of people); visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

“B” Hikers Visit Skyline

Lynn Warren

The city of Buckeye developed and maintains the beautiful and convenient Skyline Park on the southwest edge of the White Tanks. You can access this park by taking a short ride west on I-10 and taking the newly renovated Watson Rd. exit; currently, there is no entry fee and the park offers many trails which can be combined in a variety of ways to create hikes of different distances and elevation gains. On a sunny but slightly humid Oct. 9 morning, seven “B” hikers completed a scenic 9-mile loop around the circumference of the park. Why not join the hiking club and explore interesting and scenic areas with a great group of people; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.
