Hiking Club Welcomes New Slate of Officers
Laurie Rosenbloom
Elections for hiking club officers are staggered, and on March 27, the club elected a new treasurer (Ron Hoffman) and vice president (Nancy Love) while saying goodbye to the incumbents, Denns Zigmunt (treasurer) and Joe Clarkson (VP). Additionally, the club elected Neal Wring as president to complete a 1-year term due to a midterm resignation. The club welcomes our new executive board members and thanks Joe and Dennis for their service with the club.
Joe Clarkson, incumbent VP, was always willing to step up to the plate, serving not only his normal term, but also taking over as acting president due to an unexpected resignation. Joe has been very active in the club, and has also served as a hike leader and was instrumental in sustaining “D” hikes and summer hikes.
Dennis Zigmunt served two terms as treasurer, maintaining the club’s finances as well as registry, waiver records, and safety devices used on hikes. He is a “D” hike coordinator, has led many hikes over the years, and plans and coordinates summer hikes. Dennis also helped design the “mileage patches” earned by hikers and continues to fulfill ordering of these as well as nametags.

Hiker Celebrates Major Milestone
Lynn Warren
When Clare Bangs joined the PebbleCreek Hiking Club in 2013, he had zero miles and others had as many as several thousand miles. However, as time progressed, Clare accumulated miles and worked his way up the list. On March 9, on an 8-mile hike along the Black Canyon Trail, he became only the third person in club history to reach 10,000 miles and is currently second among active members—pretty impressive for someone who took time out along the way for a knee replacement. (Wonder how many miles an artificial knee is good for?)
As is customary, the group paused during the hike to document the occasion and enjoy a few goodies before continuing. The club hikes six days a week all around the valley and offers interesting hikes for almost every fitness level. Visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.
“A” Hikers Take a Grand Tour of the White Tanks
Lynn Warren
The PebbleCreek Hiking Club hikes at four levels of difficulty. “A” hikes tend to be longer and harder, but not always in remote areas. On March 14, five PC Hikers got an early start at nearby White Tanks Regional Park and completed a 16.5-mile, 2500-ft., scenic but strenuous loop encompassing Ford Canyon, Goat Camp, Bajada, and Mule Deer trails. Fortunately, it was a beautiful, comfortable, calm day. Now that temperatures are heating up, “A” hikes are over and will resume with the 2022-2023 season, which begins in September. The club offers hikes six days a week with something appropriate for most levels of fitness. Join the Hiking Club and experience interesting areas you might not visit on your own; see pchikers.org for more information and photos.
