PC Hikers explore a Maricopa Trail Segment
Lynn Warren
The hiking club’s regular season runs from September through April but a small number of hikers challenge the summer heat to enjoy summer hiking and to find new trails for the next season. On July 20, six hikers left Eagle’s Nest at 5:30 a.m. to beat the heat and I-10 traffic and headed toward the Usery Mountain Regional Park east of Phoenix. Although the club has enjoyed hikes in the park many times over the years, the objective of this hike was to check out a section of the Maricopa Trail between Pass Mountain and Hawes Trail system. The group enjoyed a meandering nine-mile hike through scenic terrain on a hot, humid day under threatening skies and in the process checked out a new trail area which may be used in future hikes. During the regular season, the club hikes five days a week all around the valley and offers interesting hikes for almost every fitness level; visit the club website at PCHIKERS.ORG for more information and photos. Mark your calendar for September 21 since the first club meeting for the 2017-2018 season is coming up shortly.
PC Hiker passes 6,000 miles
Pete Williams
One of the PebbleCreek Hiking Club’s top hikers, Lynn Warren, recently passed 6,000 career hiking miles. He did it in just over six years with the club, the fastest anyone has reached this milestone. On the hike just north of Lake Pleasant were (left to right): Mark Frumkin, Clare Bangs, Lynn Warren (photographer), Wayne Wills, Bill Halte, Marilyn Reynolds and Pete Williams (hike leader). We are currently in our exploratory hiking season checking out possible new trails for the club. The new regular season will start on September 25. Check out our website at pchikers.org for more information about the club.
Hikers view Indian Mesa
Pete Williams
Thirteen hikers from the PebbleCreek Hiking Club did a hike on July 18 near Indian Mesa (shown in the center behind the hikers). Indian Mesa is an old Indian ruins on top of a mesa overlooking Lake Pleasant. We were attempting to create a D level (about 4 to 5 miles) hike in the area. On the hike that day were (left to right): Dave Schuldt, Lynn Warren (photographer), Tom Wick (hike leader), Wayne McKinney, Joe Clarkson, Ed Bobigan, Ellie Love, Wayne Wills, Dana Thomas, Kay Thomas, Mark Frumkin, Clare Bangs and Pete Williams. The first meeting of the new season will be on September 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. For more photos and information about the club, check out our website at pchikers.org.
