Estrella Foothills Pirate Area Trails Hike
On May 3, the PC Hiking Club trekked through the Estrella Foothills Pirate Area trails and took a breather at Brethren Court. This rest stop is at the junction of Doubloon, Rum Runner, and Black Jack trails. It’s another great hiking area close to PebbleCreek! During hot weather, the club hikes start early in the day. Hikers carry generous amounts of water and electrolytes; other hot weather safety precautions are available on the hiking club website, pchikers.org.
“B” Hiker Sets New Club Record
Lynn Warren raised the bar higher when on April 23, he celebrated 14,000 miles of hiking with the club, the first in club history to record this many miles. He was a snowbird from the Seattle area for the first year, but has lived in PebbleCreek full time for the last 10 years, serving as club vice president and a “B” hike coordinator along the way. When Lynn started hiking with the club, he gave little thought to mileage and simply considered it a great opportunity to see interesting western scenery and experience and photograph it up close and personal. Slowly but surely the miles began to mount, and a few of the hikers ahead of him either moved or dialed back on hiking, so that eventually Lynn became the club mileage leader.
If you are interested in hiking with the club and chasing your own milestones, the club offers four levels of hikes, six days a week. Visit pchikers.org for more information and photos.
PebbleCreek Hikers Celebrate Laurie’s 2,000 miles
Jan Sherwood
Congratulations to Laurie Rosenbloom on achieving 2,000 miles with the PebbleCreek Hiking Club. Twenty-seven hikers came out to help Laurie celebrate this milestone in the White Tank Mountains on the Mule Deer, Blackrock, and Waterfall Trails. Hikers from all four ability levels made up the 27 hikers, which was one short of any club hike total.
The White Tank Mountains are one of the closest trail systems to PebbleCreek, and the Waterfall Trail Segment is paved most of the way and is family friendly. It’s a perfect spot to take friends and family, even if there is no water coming over the falls. On the Waterfall Segment, you’ll see a large group of Hohokam petroglyphs that are more than 800 years old. They are thought to have been carved as a magical way of controlling nature, as trail markers, or depicting religious concepts. Delight in spotting these ancient carvings by taking a short drive. Better yet, join Laurie and the PebbleCreek hikers to enjoy the trails with new friends. Visit pchikers.org for more information about the hiking club.
