In the new year the PebbleCreek Men’s Nine-Hole Golf Association (PCM9GA) bid farewell to Bruce Hulbert who stepped aside as Treasurer. He and his wife Margaret are relocating nearby. Bruce served the PCM9GA almost 20 years in various capacities.

Bruce graduated from Dartmouth College in 1960, followed by Naval Officers Candidate School. He served over 30 years on active duty, retiring with the rank of Captain. His naval career included stints as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer, an advisor to riverine forces in Vietnam, and he commanded two destroyers. He completed his naval career at the Pentagon, working in Fleet Modernization. He earned The Legion of Merit, a Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star (with Combat Valor), and the Navy Commendation Medal (with Combat Valor and Gold Star).

Bruce joined the PCM9GA in 2004, and served as club President from 2006 to 2008. He served as Membership Chair and was club Treasurer from 2008 until his retirement from club duties in January 2024. Bruce was instrumental in obtaining IRS tax-exempt status for the club in 2012.

A “Bruce Hulbert Appreciation Golf Tournament” was scheduled for Jan. 11, 2024. The day started with a tasty breakfast in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom, with Ray Clements and John Ward providing a review of Bruce’s contributions to the club. Unfortunately for the tournament, extremely high winds caused cancellation. However, Bruce and a few hearty souls ventured out and completed nine holes of golf and were able to join other Niners in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom for a round of refreshments.

The PCM9GA thanks Bruce for his years of service to the club and offers best wishes to Bruce and Margaret.

Later in January the wind and weather cooperated and a Lone Ranger Tournament was held on Jan. 18 on the Tuscany Falls East Course. The “Lone Ranger” format cycles the “Lone Ranger” position through the four-man team, and scoring is based on the net score of the “Lone Ranger” plus the low net score of the three remaining team members.

The front-nine flight was won by the foursome of Dennis Grice, Ken Whitney, Cliff Crooks, and John Banker. The group of John Mazzukelly, Tony Sacks, Mike Hurst, and Richard Johnson took top honors on the back-nine flight.

At press time, the Niners were looking forward to their Member-Member Event in February and the Club Championship in March.
