The Tennis Club has been active in the winter months with monthly Tennis Socials and events. January brought a new addition to the Board of Directors with Rellen Jones as facilities director. He joins the board with members initiated in 2023.
The first Tennis Social in 2024 was held on Jan. 20—“Sunshine and Fitness in January”—as the membership welcomed a beautiful afternoon of tennis food and fun. February had many events beginning with the InterClub Play Day with Sun City West in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. PebbleCreek prevailed and won the event, with the exchange the Tennis Club will reciprocate at their facility April 14. Skills and Drills, which continue to assist members in fine-tuning their strokes, were held on Feb. 8 and 22, while “Poker Tennis” was the theme on Feb. 17. March 2 featured the Annual Mixed Doubles Championship, representing 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 calibers. The results were as follows:
* In the 3.0 division, Jay Hayden and Mary Zanella defeated Micheal Stepien and Connie Stoy. Score: 6-1.
* In the 3.5 division, Doug Stansfield and Ann Lehman defeated Mark Eshom and Vikki Constable. Score: 6-2.
* In the 4.0 division, Dave Kersey and Brenda Cook defeated Kit Hawkins and Lee Ann Thompson. Score: 6-1.
Congratulations to all.
Fifteen teams participated with five teams in each division. Participants all enjoyed themselves with tennis, lunch, and prizes, in spite of a cross wind that developed in the afternoon.
The Tennis Club continues to sponsor many events in March and April. General meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Sports Building.
