News from the Pickleball Club

4th of July Pickleball Social

Brenda Weide

Summer is in full swing at the pickleball courts. If you drive by the courts during midday it seems to be deserted. But if you go by early in the morning you would see that the courts are busy as usual.

The 4th of July Pickleball Social was a bang this year. The courts were full with drop-in games enjoyed by all. A huge thank you to Kathy Delaney and her many volunteers for organizing and serving such delicious food. Kathy oversees organizing all our social activities. We played pickleball to patriotic music coordinated by Indy Rebhun, and the sunshine didn’t disappoint.

We are so grateful to be part of such a fun club that creates opportunities for us to meet others and enjoy our much-loved pickleball. The next social was the Back-to-School event on July 15.

Did you know that each new person who wants a mentor is assigned one to help them if they have questions figuring out our pickleball system? It’s a great way to make a new friend and it is so fun to get to know our new members. What a genius idea!! Michelle McKee is responsible for assigning mentors if you are interested in helping out. Thank you, Michelle.

Our newest members are: Alison Sanchez, Dale Sies, Janet Huston, Joe Lorino, Julie Sies, Karen Olafson, Luci Eblin, Mary Margaret Henson, Melinda Artz, Rick Germaine, Stan Turner, Teena Lorino, and Wendy Fulks.

Our July court clean-up crew was Karen and Jimmie LaFever. In June, Judy and Jeff Gauvin, assisted by Wendy and Rick Langhals, cleaned up for us. Be sure to tell them thank you if you see them. It helps our courts to stay nice looking. When we get there at 6 a.m. all the chairs are neatly arranged around tables and garbage and missing apparel are in their temporary homes. Our new courts are still on schedule for this fall. We will not have a fall dance this year but will be having a New Court Grand Opening Social.

Our own HOA was responsible for spraying off the courts last month. They were there several nights and spent many hours cleaning the courts. It was very much appreciated.

There are so many people who make this club work. I wanted to take a minute to recognize them and let you know who they are. If I have missed anyone, my apologies and we will catch you next month.
