Potluck Dinner on Christmas Day is a grand tradition

Made possible by our Jane Cook who made it her mission

To make this culinary event very close to heaven sent

For the past 23 years it was her cherished ambition

At this year’s dinner she announced she would retire

And leave future dinners to those who would aspire

To follow the footsteps of Jane whose efforts were on a plane

That all PebbleCreekers could not help but admire

Jane’s dinner of 2016 was more than a beautiful gathering

Of 160 adults bearing foods they all swore were not fattening

It was a most joyous occasion with foods of every persuasion

And Lenore Semmler said a blessing that stopped the chattering

Laurie Overson, Mistress of Ceremonies, called the tables to eat

Out of the 20 tables, number six would follow one and two to their feet

We had ham, turkey and broccoli, dressing, gravy and cranberry

And the Dessert Committee gave us sweets that couldn’t be beat

Big events like this don’t just happen, you know

Jane had planning meetings to set warming trays and sterno

Then there were tablecloths for show and a place for the piano

For Edna DeFord to play Christmas songs about bells and snow

Then there is the important part of the event, our charity

The Homeless Youth, St. Mary’s Food Bank and Veteran’s First LTD

A hat is passed for some dough so that our charities will know

We cared enough to raise $2,371.00 to help relieve their poverty

The food was superb and it was time to sing

Some carols before the dessert, but here’s the thing

Laurie called for singers and nobody came except Joseph by name

The seven-year-old took the stage, grabbed the mike and he did sing

His high voice was angelic like the Vienna Boys Choir

He sang the Jingle Bells with enthusiasm and desire

We all joined softly this day so as to hear him sing it his way

The applause was thunderous when the youngster did retire

It was now time for the Pièce de Résistance, dessert

To be fair, Laurie, the MC, would call the tables in reverse

The selection was so vast, to look at it would fatten your ____

I’m sure you selected the correct noun. It was girth

The Potluck was again a great PebbleCreek success

Jane Cook and her team did indeed truly impress

We do wish Jane well you know, but we sure hate to see her go

Her event should continue for it is one God will surely bless

And continue it will for we have volunteers from Tennessee

Who will Co-Chair the leadership to bring this event to thee?

Susan and Pat Fallon have advised they accept the challenge

To carry on Jane’s tradition on Christmas Day for you and me
