Millions of Mah Jongg players throughout the world are tackling this challenging game that originated in ancient China and has become very popular in the United States. As the game moved west, it emerged in many forms. In 1937 the National Mah Jongg League in the United States was formed to standardize the game and continues to this day to assure everyone plays the same hands by the same rules.

“Do the twos have to be in the suit of dots to go with the zeroes?” “Why aren’t zeroes black on the card like flowers and winds?” Can jokers only be used in pungs or kongs?” Some PebbleCreek residents productively spent hot summer hours learning the meaning of and answers to questions like these. The nineteenth Beginners’ Mah Jongg Class completed their course in August and are ready to join fellow Creekers who regularly meet on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse.

The PebbleCreek Recreational Mah Jongg Club will offer another Introductory Class beginning in October. The class will meet for six weeks on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. For more information about the class or the club, interested residents may contact Club President Janet Day at [email protected].
