October Monday Speakers Scheduled

During October, LifeLong Learning is offering three Monday speaker presentations, covering topics ranging from 1700’s historical events to future technological advancements. The presentations are:

France as America’s Ally in the Revolutionary War, Oct. 19: ASU Professor Mark Cruse will explain the critical importance of France’s entry into the Revolutionary War on the side of the Americans.

Brain: Biology of Resilience, Action, Innovation and Nobility, Oct. 26: Michael E. Berens, Ph.D.

America’s Rivers, Nov. 2: Former riverboat captain Tom Struve will explain the importance of America’s network of waterways—during war, peace and commerce—which continues to underpin the nation’s development.

October Classes Provide Useful Tips

LifeLong Learning is presenting four classes during October, covering such diverse topics as gardening to attract butterflies and bees, using iPhones to enhance hearing, Medicare and Social Security explanations, and golf-cart how-to’s. Each October class begins at 1 p.m. in the LifeLong Learning Center. (Medicare 101 is an online Zoom class.)

Attracting Bees, Butterflies and Birds, Friday, Oct. 16: Terri Lynn Kelly, a Certified Master Gardener, will show how to design a garden that attracts and supports essential pollinators and desert birds.

iPhone Tips for Better Hearing, Oct. 20: Shannon Tyree, vice president of the Hearing Loss Association of America’s West Valley Chapter, will show attendees at this free class how to use features on their own iPhones to help them hear and communicate better.

Medicare 101, Oct. 23: Jack Burns, public affairs specialist with the Social Security Administration, and Peter Bauer, a healthcare education specialist with the CMS Center for Medicare and Medicare Services, will host a free, online Zoom presentation covering many commonly misunderstood aspects of Social Security and Medicare programs and benefits.

Golf-Cart Basics, Oct. 27: Doug Adair owns a small company specializing in converting golf carts to Lithium batteries and in performing cart electrical repairs. He will present an overview of ownership legalities, golf cart preparation for extended absences, and charging/maintenance recommendations.
