Let the games begin! Tennis Club in full swing

Rana Cukierski

Friday, October 2 was a busy morning. The sun was shining and skies were clear. The ice chests were loaded and set up at 7:00 a.m. at Eagle’s Nest patio by the “ice man,” Dan Schimmelpfennig and his “ice cube” helpers. Jeanne Schimmelpfennig was picking up donuts and orange juice as her “village people” were setting up the coffee and tables. Members began filing in at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and their court assignments. John Flynn set up a fun format of nine groups of players of six, seven or eight players. Teams spread over 10 courts. Let the games begin! Each player played 20 games with a mix of partners and opponents. Play ended at 11:30 a.m. and once again Jeanne served a delicious lunch. Fried chicken, beans, chips, fruit and cookies were gobbled up by all. A total of 83 participated in this social and all the snowbirds have not even returned yet! Jerry made announcements, raffled off several winners of gift cards and welcomed our new members.

Our next social/tournament will be a very scary morning. It is scheduled for Halloween, Saturday morning, October 31. Funny looking tennis players will be roaming around the courts. Costumes are certainly encouraged and there will be a contest and judging for best costume. Donuts and coffee will be served as well as pizza and refreshments for lunch. Read about the results in the next Post! All the details are on our website; check it out at www.pebblecreektennis.org.

The last social/tournament of the year is our Thanksgiving Food Bank drive. It is scheduled for November 19. December is our Christmas dinner/dance at Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. Read about the details on our website and sign up for play and lunch or just lunch.

Kevin Lyons thanks PebbleCreek tennis club members for your continuing donations to the Goodyear Community Youth program. We are still taking donations for racquets and bags. Drop off your donation at the Tuscany Tennis Center. The Board thanks you for your donations. Soon we will be announcing times when the kids will be coming here for matches to play each other. Possibly in the spring, a tournament will be played on our courts with some of our willing participants from our club!
