Source Book Update—Volunteers Needed
Tracey Schryver
The Kare Bears House is still seeking volunteers to help deliver the 2026 Source Book. The delivery date has not yet been determined but we are anticipating a mid to late February timeframe.
If you have volunteered in the past, you should have received an email to determine if this remains something you’re willing to participate in once again. You must reply to the email in order to remain on the volunteer list.
Additional volunteers are still needed to help out. This is especially true for our newer units as well as replacing volunteers who may have given up their position.
If you are willing to help, please send your name, unit and lot number, email address, and telephone contact to: sourcebook@karebears.org.
While we cannot guarantee you will deliver in your own unit, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Volunteers will pick up their lot of Source Books at 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Lane (Eagle’s Nest side). Once you receive the books, you will place the book and map into a bag before delivering to the unit assigned. Each volunteer will deliver approximately 30 to 40 books. The pickup day at the Kare Bears house will be on a Sunday. All Source Books are to be delivered to the community by the Friday (five days) of the pickup week. We look forward to hearing from you in hopes that you will be able to participate in this volunteering opportunity. Thanks for your kindness in lending a helping hand.
Kare Bears Ornament Fundraiser
Calling all PebbleCreek artists!
As the holiday season approaches, Kare Bears is inviting PebbleCreek artists to contribute handmade ornaments for our Holiday Open House Fundraiser on Dec. 12.
Your lovely ornaments will adorn the Kare Bears’ House Christmas Tree. All handmade ornaments will be offered to visitors, for a donation, during our Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit Kare Bears.
We can’t wait to see the unique and fun designs you create for our ornament fundraiser. There is no limit to the number of ornaments you donate, we just ask that they be handcrafted by a PebbleCreek resident.
You may drop off your Christmas Ornaments at the Kare Bears House at 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Rd., Eagle’s Nest side, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Or send an email to Brenda Scarbrough at bscarbrough824@gmail.com and she’ll be happy to arrange a convenient time to pick them up.
Please be sure to attach a tag with your name and email or phone number to your ornament. Handcrafted ornament donations will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Kare Bears is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides essential services to PebbleCreek residents, including rides to medical appointments, wellness clinics, educational seminars, blood drives, and the loan of medical equipment—all at no charge.
Thank you!
Honoring Veterans at Bingo
Nicki Forbes-Robinson
Share Bears bingo, a Kare Bears sponsored activity, celebrated Veterans Day as we acknowledged several of our players who served in the military—Ed Brewer and Christine Beckstead. The room was festively decorated in flags and the red, white, and blue. It was a doubly special day for three pictured friends, Sharon Holloway, Mary Kay Kittleson, and Sandy Hoffman, who all won games. Another rare occurrence is couples winning games the same day but Deb Stemke/Pat Piorkowski and Nicki Forbes-Robinson/Jim Schleimer were all winners. Lots to celebrate!
Kare Bears Seeking Drivers
Tracey Schryver
Kare Bears is in great need of additional volunteer drivers. If you are willing to donate a bit of your time driving residents to medical appointments, then this may be the perfect position for you.
Here are some tidbits which may help you to decide on becoming a Kare Bears volunteer driver:
* You can choose as little or as much as you want to drive.
* You can choose how far you want to drive or how often.
* You can choose not to drive a resident requiring medical equipment.
* You will use your own vehicle to transport to and from medically related doctor’s appointments.
* Your insurance is primary and Kare Bears insurance is secondary.
* You will use your phone, tablet, or computer to learn of ride requests from residents, which you can then accept online.
* If you choose, you can be reimbursed by Kare Bears for mileage per the current IRS rate.
If you are interested in becoming a Kare Bears driver, you can access more information by visiting the website at Karebears.org and clicking the volunteer link or by emailing your inquiry to drivers@karebears.org.
Upcoming Events
Tracey Schryver
Please join some of the Kare Bears Volunteers at an Open House on Friday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to see what services Kare Bears provides, meet volunteers, ask questions, and even offer some suggestions for improvement.
You’ll also have the opportunity to select a beautiful handmade ornament from our tree by making a donation to the Kare Bears’ House. These unique ornaments are made by our very own PebbleCreek artists.
Refreshments will be provided, so please stop by and say hello! We’re located at 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Rd. on the Eagle’s Nest side.
Also, save the date for The Kare Bears Annual Health Fair. The date is all set for Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. until noon in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. The Health Fair is a wonderful opportunity for our residents to meet medical and dental professionals as well as health and wellness exhibitors.
Have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.
Share Bears Bingo and Halloween!
Nicki Forbes-Robinson
Halloween provides an excuse to wear costumes or fun gear, and bingo players never disappoint. We had cowgirls, chicken heads, witches, colorful tights, knights, queens, and glitter tees. Always a fun day! Pictured are the hard-working bingo team of Juan Fermen, Susie Nee, Hilda Fermin, Maureen Plate, and Pat Granata (missing are Dave Johnson, Tod Pickins, and Jacquie O’Hare). Share Bears Bingo, a Kare Bears sponsored activity, is held Fridays in Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. It’s light-hearted competition and only a quarter a game. Join us at 10:30 a.m. for social time and games start promptly at 11 a.m. If you’re looking for something fun to do this winter, bring your $3.25 in quarters and join us!
