Italian American Club Spring League Baseball Event

Italian American Club members enjoying the private patio at Goodyear Ballpark

Melissa D’Onofrio

On March 22, in another sold-out club event, 36 members enjoyed a fun evening watching the San Diego Padres take on the Cincinnati Reds in a MLB Spring League baseball game. Prior to the opening pitch, the perfect mood was set when everyone received their box of Cracker Jacks and joined in to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Members enjoyed the comfort and terrific vantage point of the ballpark’s “Party Patio,” which was reserved for our club exclusively. The privacy this area afforded allowed members to mix, mingle, and enjoy each other’s company. Refreshments were ordered from and delivered directly to the patio tables, so long waiting lines at the concession stands were avoided.

During the game, members competed against one other in a lively game of “Fun Watching Baseball.” Each player received several playing cards for a specific event (“stolen base,” “batter hits a triple,” etc.). At the end of the sixth inning the results were tallied and the two top winning couples, Sy Rosenthal/Judy Freidman and Joe/Arlene Solin, including 14 additional winners, received highly coveted prizes of gift certificates for Ed’s Dogs.

Many thanks to our hosts for the evening, Ken and Caroline Minichiello, and to Jackie Voccola for managing logistics with the Goodyear Ballpark.
