The 6th annual Italian American Club’s Putt ‘N’ Eat event was held on March 7. Our theme this year was a nod to the Masters Golf Tournament held each year in Atlanta, Ga. Although not as large, our tournament was every bit as exciting. As the skies cleared, 72 players, randomly assigned into teams of four, enjoyed an afternoon putting around 18 holes on the lower Tuscany Falls putting green. Players maneuvered around holes marked with iconic Masters’ names such as Yellow Jasmine,” “Magnolia,or  Carolina Cherry. They worked around obstacles including wine bottle alley,” “wild water hazard, and child’s putter only holes.

After the tournament, we gathered in the Chianti room to enjoy drinks including an Arnold Palmer or a Masters’ traditional favorite, the Azalea. After cocktails, a delicious Southern BBQ of mesquite chicken and pulled pork sliders was served. A variety of pies including Georgia Peach, Southern Pecan, and All-American Apple completed the meal.

Competition between teams was fierce, with the first place team just inching by second place by one point. Tournament winners were announced and received prizes and bragging rights until next year.

Winners: 1st Place, Flowering Crabapple: Bob Spano, Susanne Butler, Barbara Mussman, and Pat Sherlock; 2nd Place, Nandia: Rosemary Holmes, Keith Martino, Jean Sherlock, and Ron Swim; 3rd Place, Pink Dogwood: Louise Archambault, Don Burks, Stephen Fafoglia, and Judy Freidman.

Co-chairs were Bev Buck and Ellie Kovach, who would like to thank all the club volunteers who helped make this event a success, with a special thanks to our golf pro Dennis Downs for his help.
