Now that the snowbirds are flocking back to the Valley of the Sun, we can share the trip report from the RV Club that took six rigs on a more intimate itinerary than usual. Departing on May 17, the crew utilized the discounts from Passport America and camped just outside of Wilcox, Arizona, and was treated to homemade pies and a free pancake breakfast by the lady who runs the park. Now that is something that rarely occurs with a larger group.

Proceeding through the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico), their next stop was Las Cruces and another Passport America Park. Always looking for a more favorable rate, wagon masters know that you can save the cost of a Passport America membership in just one or two nights. In Carlsbad the group settled in for some great sightseeing of the spectacular caverns. Despite the crowds, all agreed that the mammoth caverns of Carlsbad were definitely a bucket list destination for anyone. Self-guided or otherwise, all the touring made the luncheon on Mexican food taste all that much better.

Finally making it into Texas, more caverns beckoned in Sonora, but rain dampened spirits, so onto the finale of the trip, San Antonio. At least 8” of rain dumped within 24 hours. This made for a great opportunity to fill buckets and give the rigs, and each other, a good dowsing; another bucket list activity. Besides the famous Alamo there were so many other attractions like the River Walk, San Antonio bus tour and a special re-enactment in Fredericksburg of WWII in the Pacific performed only once per year.

The final Happy Hour was for delicious must go’s. That included anything left in the fridge that must go on the table and be enjoyed by all, such as the pie made by the lady in Wilcox. Never predictable, but always enjoyable whether ten rigs or six, we have a lot of fun, fun, fun.
