Hole-In-One – April 2024

Judi Floyd Achieves Her First!

Carole Schumacher

Judi Floyd made her first ever (and she says probably only) hole-in-one on Feb. 15 on hole number 12 at Tuscany Falls West. The red flag was at 135 yards and she used her driver to achieve this awesome milestone! Judi is a member of the PCLGA.

“I was playing with Karen Uherchik, Pamela Baldwin, and Kate Schimelpfening,” said Judi. “Following our round, I celebrated with friends, lunch, and beers at Eagles Nest Clubhouse.”

Congratulations, Judi!

Ron Ramsbacher Makes Second Career Hole-in-One

On Feb. 14 Ron Ramsbacher made a hole-in-one on hole number 4 at Eagle’s Nest. He made it while playing in Bill Volm’s golf group. This was Ron’s second career ace, but his first ace on a par 3!

The 4th hole played 144 yards from the white tees to a back pin-placement. Under calm conditions, Ron hit his 8-iron straight at the flag. The ball landed on the green and rolled over a ridge and disappeared. Neither Ron nor his playing partners (Paul Vogt, Phil Langley, and Bob Sandberg) saw the ball go in. It was not until Phil checked the hole after he arrived at the green that he confirmed Ron’s hole-in-one. So, at that moment, whooping and hollering commenced and high fives exchanged.

Ron grew up in Missoula, Mont. He graduated with a business degree in accounting from the University of Montana. He spent 25 years in public accounting specializing in taxes and bank accounting. After his accounting career he purchased a grocery store called Orange Street Food Farm, located near his alma mater.

Ron has been playing golf for over 45 years. His first ace came in 2021 at Lookout Mountain here in Phoenix. He made it on a 260-yard par 4! In his golf career, he has won several Club Championships, Senior Championships, and senior events.

Ron (aka “Rams” as many in Montana could not pronounce his full last name) is a current board member of the Montana State Golf Association and works with Junior Golf. He was also an assistant golf coach at Hellgate High School. But, probably one of his golf career highlights was being the captain of the Montana State Junior Team in the “Montana/Alberta Cup,” an international “Ryder Cup” style match against the Alberta, Can., provincial team.

He retired and in January 2023 he and his wife, Valarie, moved to PebbleCreek. Congrats to “Rams” on his perfect shot!

Larry Nathan Makes Third Career Hole-in-One at Eagle’s Nest

On Jan. 27, Larry Nathan made a hole-in-one on hole number 12 at Eagle’s Nest. He made it while playing with friends (Liz and Chuck Wenzler) and his wife, Linda. This was Larry’s third career ace. Coincidentally, Linda made her second career ace just a month earlier.

The 12th hole played 138 yards from the white tees to a front pin-placement. With a hurting breeze, Larry hit his 28 degree hybrid with a high ball flight straight at the flagstick. The ball landed on the front of the green and went out of sight. Liz speculated, “That’s in the hole!” Larry said, “I’m not going to get excited until I get there.” Larry arrived at the green first and said, “I don’t see it.” So he checked the hole and exclaimed, “Yeah, there it is” and then, “Wow!” Congrats by his partners followed.

Larry has been playing golf for about 40 years. His first ace came in 1968 at the Olympus Golf Course in Salt Lake City, Utah. Way back then it was common practice on Par 3’s for the group on the green to wave the group on the tee to hit up. When Larry hit his shot, the group on the green saw his ball go into the hole and signaled back to him that it went in. When he arrived at the green they just handed him his ball. Apparently they did not want to putt with someone else’s ball in the hole!

His second ace came in 2005 at the Serrano Country Club in El Dorado Hills, Calif. It happened during a 2-man team event on the signature par 3. It was a downhill hole over water. Larry hits his shot and while the ball is in the air his teammate yells, “That’s gotta go!” Almost at the same time one of the other playing partners (opponent team) said, “That’s in the hole!” The opponent guy was right. Strangely, it turns out that this opponent guy was a rocket scientist for NASA whose specialty was flight trajectory!

Larry grew up in Corning, Calif. He graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He earned his PhD in chemistry at the University of Utah. He spent his entire working career as a chemistry professor at Santa Clara University serving seven of those years as Department Chair. While there, he received the College of Arts & Sciences Joseph Bayma Research Award as well as the Santa Clara University President’s Teaching Award.

He retired in 2003 and he and Linda moved to El Dorado Hills, Calif. In 2021 they moved to PebbleCreek.

Congrats to Larry on his latest hole-in-one.
