Mark Yslas, Superintendent
I am excited to announce that the final election results are in, and our bond initiative has passed. On behalf of our Governing Board, I express our sincere gratitude for your continued investment in education. My sincere thanks to the “Continue the Quality” political action committee for working tirelessly to pass the bond. I would also like to congratulate the Avondale and Litchfield elementary school districts on their bond victories.
The election results are a pivotal moment for our high school district and will help us accomplish what the community dreamed of in the 10-year strategic plan. We will continue to transform the dreams into reality and #makeithappen!
The following are the funding priorities we will focus on in the coming months and years:
* Increase investment in campus security and safety including cameras, alarms, gates and doors.
* Creation of vocational/workforce development programs and academies that provide more choices and pathways for students to high-wage, in-demand careers.
* Address campuses’ critical needs including air conditioning improvements, converting to low-energy lighting, installing water-saving fixtures, internet upgrades and fixing damaged roofs.
* Construct a new high school to relieve overcrowding at our existing high schools.
* Purchase additional buses to provide a larger fleet and replace outdated buses.
Governing Board President Trey Terry has instructed me to provide fiscal transparency related to bond expenditures in order to maintain the community’s trust. He is holding me accountable to ensure that every bond dollar is thoughtfully aligned to positively impact our students’ academic success. To further demonstrate how we are being responsible stewards of your taxpayer dollars, I have committed to the Board to provide quarterly updates starting in January 2024. Details will be shared on social media, in local newspapers, in community letters and at board meetings.
Thank you again to every voter who said YES for our family of high schools, Agua Fria, Canyon View, Desert Edge, Millennium, Verrado and high school #6 (soon to be named). The District cannot do our important work without support from the community.
