On March 23, Harry Apodaca made a hole-in-one at Eagle’s Nest golf course. His super shot occurred on the 17th hole during play with the Bandits golf group.
The par-3 hole was playing 142 yards from the blue tee to a back-right pin placement. With gusting but helping winds, he hit his 9-iron straight at the hole, just carrying the front sand trap. His ball bounced and rolled directly into the hole.
Harry and his playing partners (Bill Anderson, Wayne Cox, and Jack Stipp) all saw the ball go in. Harry turned to them and they started high-fiving and hollering. One of his partners said, “Let’s go drinking, he’s buying!” Riding along with the group was Brian Lorenzo, who snapped a pic of Harry celebrating. Playing golf for 23 years, this was Harry’s second hole-in-one. His first was at Tanoan Country Club in Albuquerque, N.M., in 2006.
He is a PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) member, but this hole-in-one was not made during a PCMGA event, and therefore does not qualify for the annual PCMGA hole-in-one prize fund.
Harry is from the small town of Chama, N.M., located about 8 miles south of the Colorado border. He graduated from New Mexico State with a degree in civil engineering. He earned his Professional Engineer (PE) designation in 1974. He worked for the New Mexico Department of Transportation for 10 years before starting his own business called J-H Supply Company located in Albuquerque. They specialized in the supply and installation of guard rails and interstate signing. In 2017, Harry turned over his business to his children, but still stays involved.
Harry and his wife, Carolyn, became PebbleCreek residents in 2016, but have been owners since 1999. They are both avid Karaoke singers. They will celebrate their 52nd anniversary in June.
Congratulations to Harry on his amazing shot!
