Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo Will Be January Speaker for PC Democratic Club

Alisa Moore

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club kicks off 2023 with news and information about our community. Our first meeting is Jan. 4 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. Mayor Joe Pizzillo has not visited the club at a meeting since the primary election forum hosted by the club in May, and so, after a successful election, he will have lots to share about the buzz of activity in Goodyear, including housing construction, new restaurants and retail planned, and the opening of the new City Center.

The City Center at the Goodyear Civic Square (GCS), a marvelous achievement, joins the gorgeous new Goodyear Recreation Campus, an 86-acre state-of-the-art facility, complete with a community park and aquatic center, that opened officially on July 3. In the works since 1984, GCS has a two-acre park for community events and gatherings, upscale office space to attract high-quality jobs, a parking garage, and space for new restaurants, retail, and entertainment.

About 20 club members joined Vice Mayor Brannon Hampton for a tour of the Center in November, including the new city hall that contains all public-facing municipal departments, and the magnificent new library that is twice the size of the previous one.

On Dec. 17, 2021, the Goodyear City Council appointed Pizzillo to serve as Goodyear’s Mayor to complete the term of the late Mayor Georgia Lord. Mayor Pizzillo has served on the Goodyear City Council since 2009. During that time, he has served as both vice mayor and acting mayor.

Mayor Pizzillo brings 30 years of experience in state and local government budgeting and finance to his seat on the council. Prior to his retirement from the city of Goodyear in 2008, he served as the city’s Budget Manager. Currently, he is an adjunct professor of Accounting and Finance with Estrella Mountain Community College, Grand Canyon University, and Park University. He earned his business degree from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Mayor Pizzillo represents Goodyear on a number of influential regional and state committees, including the Maricopa Association of Governments’ (MAG) Regional Council, Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) Board of Directors, WESTMARC Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Southwest Lending Closet Board of Directors, and is an active member of the PebbleCreek Rotary Club.

A Valley resident since 1986, Joe and his wife Vickie live in Goodyear. Joe’s son, Nicholas, and his wife Kristen, have blessed him with two granddaughters, Sophia and Aubrey.

The meeting social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the business meeting with our speaker begins at 7 p.m. There is an open cash bar during the event. Our meetings are open to all and no registration is necessary. For further information, please visit pcdemclub.org. Bring your questions for the Mayor!
