Members of the PebbleCreek Singles Club were in a celebratory mood at their September meeting. With spirits already high in anticipation of sharing memories with some of the club’s pioneers and former presidents as part of the seventeenth anniversary recognition program, there were two more special reasons to make merry.
The word is spreading that the PC Singles is a growing group of friendly, fun loving men and women who are having a great time enjoying each other’s company while participating in a wide variety of activities and events on a monthly basis. Six single PC residents came to the September meeting prepared to join the club, resulting in one of the largest influx of newcomers ever at one meeting! A luncheon is scheduled for October 9 at noon at Eagle’s Nest Dining Room to provide new members an opportunity to socialize and to learn more about the club. New members are encouraged to contact Vice President and Membership Director MJ Smyrl at [email protected] or 249-5388 for further details.
And the best reason of all for PC Singles to celebrate was disclosed when Treasurer Anita Asp took a final tally of donations to support the organization’s annual fund drive on behalf of the Homeless Youth Connection (HYC). Not only has the campaign goal of $2000 been reached, but thanks to its caring and generous membership the club has collected $2050 to support the HYC mission to raise awareness and meet the needs of homeless youth so they can stay in school and graduate. HYC’s long term vision and ongoing goals are to provide homeless teens with housing, basic needs and services as they make positive, life affirming choices toward becoming responsible, productive adults. The West Valley is home to approximately 500 homeless high school students each year.
In addition to its original mission to provide homeless teens with basic needs such as food, clothing, toiletries and school supplies, HYC has consistently introduced new services and programs to help this nearly forgotten population thrive amidst the many obstacles they face every day. President Judy Shaffer announces that donations will continue to be collected through the end of the year. Checks only may be made out directly to the HYC and given or sent to Treasurer Anita Asp at 3151 N. 159th Drive.
Activities Director Peggy Kuffner urges members to refer to the events calendars available online in the weekly email update or at the Kiosk in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. Special upcoming events include Dinner and Comedy Show on October 11, Octoberfest on October 25 and a Cowboy Cookout at Estrella Mountain Park on November 1. Contact Peggy at [email protected] or 935-7225 for further information. The group’s next meeting will be held Sunday, October 5. New member registration begins at 2:15 p.m., activities signup at 2:30 p.m. and the formal meeting at 3:00 p.m. Social hour takes place after the meeting in the Long Drive Lounge.
