Genealogy Club Updates

Vicky Ferraresi

The PebbleCreek Genealogy Club’s (PCGC) next general meeting will be on Monday, July 13, 9 a.m. to noon. PCGC meets the second Monday of each month in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse from 9 a.m. to noon. Guests are always welcome!

Coming Up: We will be suspending our regular meeting format to hold two hands-on workshops this summer, open to the entire PebbleCreek Community.

On July 13, member Barb Downey will lead, AI 101: Getting Started.” Bring your laptop and a genealogical question (maybe something you are stuck on) so that you can learn how to use Artificial Intelligence in genealogy. Barb will introduce AI options and how to format your inquiry, but you will be doing your own research!

On Aug. 10, I will be leading Getting Started in Genealogy.” Intended for those who have never done genealogy, this workshop will get you started. It will also be interactive, so bring your laptop and expect to sign up for some of the free websites such as FamilySearch.

Continuing the celebration of America’s 250th birthday, Denise Beeson will present Early American Migration: Why Did They Come?” on Sept. 14. We’re looking forward to hearing about our early American ancestors.

The Program Committee under the leadership of Donna Paine continues to plan the 2027 program and welcomes ideas for topics and speakers. The Field Trip Subcommittee is working on outings. We are looking forward to another year of great programs and activities.

On the social front, the monthly lunches continue to be well attended. Our Mahjong Group is having great fun as more members join in to play this fun game. We’ll be having a summer social on July 2 in lieu of the lunch this month—members will be getting an email with details.

What did you miss? On June 8, Twila Lobitz presented “Cemetery Secretary.” Members enjoyed hearing her experiences and tips about gleaning information such as family relationships and military service from this valuable resource.

Genealogy Detectives can assist members on starting their research or help when they are “stuck”. Sometimes it is just a matter of getting organized or getting assistance on where or how to start searching for your family. Genealogy Detectives can help jump-start your search. This is a member-only benefit and is a great reason to join PCGC.

Visit our website at pebblecreekgenealogy.club for more information about PCGC. General information is open to all site visitors with additional content (including Genealogy Detectives) available to members only. This is another member benefit and another great reason to join PCGC.
