The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek is excited to have at its Wednesday, January 6 annual membership meeting, Tamra Rothenburger, founder of Arizona Sugar Glider Rescue. This rescue, founded by Tamra and Dan Rothenburger in 2011, is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the care and well-being of sugar gliders, both prior and after their purchase, and to rescuing sugar gliders from mill breeders and hoarding cases.

Sugar Gliders are small nocturnal gliding possums which belong to the marsupial infraclass. They have a gliding membrane extending from their forelegs to their hind legs which allows them to glide through the air, much like a flying squirrel. They average 12 to 13 inches from their tail to the tip of their nose and live 12 to 14 years in captivity. Sugar Gliders are endearing, playful and entertaining exotic pets who love social interaction with their owners. Tamra will be bringing the rescue mascots Lucky and Zoey to entertain and educate us.

All residents, whether club members or not, are invited to attend this fun and educational meeting on Wednesday, January 6 in Room 100 of the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center at 3:00 p.m. There is no charge.

As a reminder to our members, we will also be holding our annual election of officers at this meeting. We will be electing a vice president, secretary and two directors.

As always, a box will be available for donations of such items as pet beds, pet toys, pet food (check expiration dates), crates, cages, leashes, towels and blankets (no sheets or pillow cases please), etc. Those items not used for our own PebbleCreek rescues will be donated to other area animal rescues.

For any questions please contact Jim or Marge Ellison at 623-935-6651.
