Democratic Club to Host U.S. Senate Candidate Ruben Gallego

Ruben Gallego

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club is pleased to host Representative Ruben Gallego at their April meeting. Representative Gallego is the son of Hispanic immigrants and a veteran of the Marines. He has represented Arizona’s Congressional District 3 in Congress since 2014. He is a graduate of Harvard University.

Prior to running for the Senate, Representative Gallego was Assistant Minority Leader in the Arizona House of Representatives. He held this post from 2012 until his resignation to run for Congress. As a Congressman, he is the Ranking Member of the sub-committee on Intelligence and Special Operations, a sub-committee of the Committee on Armed Services. He also sits on three sub-committees of the Committee on Natural Resources—Indian and Insular Affairs; Oversight and Investigations; and Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries.

Representative Gallego is a supporter of minority and Native American rights and in September 2023, the House passed Gallego’s bill, the Native American Child Protection Act, which aims to set up the National Indian Child Resource and Family Services Center to assist and train tribes, tribal organizations and urban Indian organizations, and also aims to come up with state-tribe agreements to prevent, investigate, and prosecute family violence. He supports women’s rights and opposed the overturning of Roe v. Wade, calling it “rolling back women’s rights.”

He is also an author. His book, “They Called Us ‘Lucky’: The Life and Afterlife of the Iraq War’s Hardest Hit Unit,” about his time in Iraq with the Marines, was published in 2021. One of four siblings of a single mother, Representative Gallego is married with a son from a previous marriage, and a daughter.

In November, Representative Gallego will represent the Democratic Party in the election for the Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of Kyrsten Sinema against the Republican candidate, Kari Lake.

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club is looking forward to hearing Ruben Gallego speak of his run for the Senate and his plans to continue to represent Arizona in Washington, D.C.

The April meeting of the PC Democratic Club will be on Wednesday, April 3, in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. The social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open and all are welcome.
