It’s spring, a favorite time of year for many when the world and nature wakes up and winter is in the rear view mirror. Here in Arizona the PebbleCreek (PC) Democratic Club and its members are welcoming spring by “springing” into action.
It’s an Election Year and there is much to do. Whatever your political affiliation, there are many non-partisan tasks to be done that support fair elections and voting opportunities. Many PC Democratic members will be volunteering for these tasks. For example, some are answering the call to join phone banks or to canvass voters locally, while others are registering voters at public events and locations such as local Community Colleges.
In Arizona, we enjoy the ability to vote by mail and making sure that voters are registered to vote in this way is another area club members can support fair and free elections. Making sure the opportunity and right to vote is maintained is important for all Arizonans.
Speaking of the election, the Democratic Club welcomes candidates to its March meeting. Dr. Quacy Smith is a lawyer, minister, and veteran of the Marines. This will be Dr. Smith’s second visit to the club. He is an excellent speaker and club members are excited for his candidacy in CD9. He will be the only candidate running against incumbent Paul Gosar (R), other potential candidates having dropped out. This will be the first time Representative Gosar has had an opponent in CD9. This Congressional District is large, stretching from PebbleCreek to the state line with California and north to Utah. We are pleased to have Dr. Smith visit us again and look forward to hearing his plans for the District.
Also joining us in March will be candidates hoping to represent Arizona Legislative District 29 of which PebbleCreek is a part. Eric Stafford is a candidate for the Arizona State Senate, and Tanairi Ochoa-Martinez and Tom Tzitura are both running to represent LD 29 In the Arizona State House.
Club members will hear from all four candidates at the meeting. It is important to be fully informed before voting for candidates in any election so that the best choices can be made. The PC Democratic Club strives to help its members receive accurate and up-to-date information about candidates and the election process.
The PC Democratic Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month. The March meeting will be on March 6. Meetings are in the ballroom of the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The meetings are open and everyone is welcome. See our website, pcdemclub.org, for more information about the club and its events.
