2017 New Year’s resolution for PCTC is return, volley, rally, love, serve up compliments and have fun on the courts. How nice it is to play as much tennis as we want with no court fees! All we have to do is pay 30 bucks a year to belong to the cool PebbleCreek Tennis Club. With that tiny enrollment we get so much. We had Ken as a vice president who watched out for our safety and took care of courts and equipment that need repair. Ken will train Dennis for his new position. We have a tournament director, John, who plans monthly mixers or tournaments for all levels of play. We have Carol for our social director who plans and serves delicious meals for our social events and, along with her icemen, she keeps us hydrated. We had Maggie keeping track of our funds and now she will pass on her knowledge to Norma for the next two years. Our board was rounded out by Bernie who served as member at large; Jill will take that spot on the board and also improve communications and web related issues. Susie takes minutes and writes articles for the PebbleCreek Post. And what can I say about the president? After four years, Jerry is retiring at 82½. Jerry ran the club fairly by following the tennis and HOA by laws and rules. He helped tweak the website and the reservations system and monitored the court usage; he ran the meetings and socials interspersing information with cool door prizes and introductions of new members. His hard work, twinkling eyes and sense of humor will be missed but not lost. He will still harass us on the courts as much as possible between naps. Our new president, Ken, has huge shoes to fill but we know he can do it because he loves our club and tennis as much as anyone around. And with change of the year comes one more change in the club. Webmaster Dan L. is also retiring from his duties. What a huge benefit we have gained from our fabulous website and Dan’s expertise. Now it is someone else’s turn to serve as master of the web!

Arthur Ashe said: “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever the cost.”

Thank you to all the heroes of our tennis club for the big and small ways each of you help.
