Camera Club Photo of the Month

“Chuck”—A great example of desert wildlife photography by club member Lynn Warren; Canon SX720 HS, 50mm zoom (equivalent to 280mm), F5.6, ISO 200, 1/1000 sec.

The May photo of the month is a nice photo by club member Lynn Warren of a chuckwalla engaging in typical behavior, sitting on a rock enjoying morning sun. A chuckwalla, one of our less frequently seen desert creatures, is a large flat-bodied desert lizard which is part of the iguana family and found throughout the southwest. Lynn spotted this guy while hiking Lost Creek trail in Skyline/Verrado; the chuckwalla didn’t stick around for a photo session but Lynn managed to snap this photo before it took off. The picture was taken with a Canon pocket camera with a 40X zoom lens, which Lynn always carries on hikes. This reinforces the concept that the best camera is the one you have with you since you never know when you may encounter a photo opportunity.
