The PC Breast Cancer Discussion Group will not be meeting in July and August but we are still going to get together for breakfast at Eagle’s Nest Restaurant on July 25. We welcome newly diagnosed residents, as well as everyone else who has gone through the breast cancer journey. If you can join us, please let us know by Tuesday, July 23, so we can make sure we have a place for you.
If you have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and are needing a lumpectomy or mastectomy, please call prior to your treatment so that we can give you a special gift. It is a wonderful little heart pillow made by the PebbleCreek Quilters. The pillows have been designed to bring comfort while recovering from surgery. It is placed underneath the arm where the surgery has taken place and is held in place by a piece of elastic. This relieves the pressure on the incision. Another use for the pillow is to place it under the car seat belt so that there is no pressure on the breast following surgery.
For more details on the breakfast or how to get a pillow, please contact Rayma Scalzo at 623-935-1819 or email her at [email protected]. Rayma has facilitated the PC Breast Cancer Support Group for 24 years and is a breast cancer survivor of 26 years. Through the years, treatments and medications have improved a lot. Breast cancer no longer has the same prognosis as it did years ago. The most important thing is discovering the cancer, getting it treated and going on with your life. During that journey it is so helpful to know you are not alone, so please remember that we are here for you.
