Artist of the Month: Diana Ho

Diana Ho

The PebbleCreek Art Club is pleased to name Diana Ho the Artist of the month for May 2022.

Diana Ho, born in Shanghai, has had an extreme passion for art since childhood. Under the guidance of renowned artists, she began her art career working as a designer at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. In 1987, Diana moved to the U.S., and her artwork was regularly selected for art exhibitions. She was awarded numerous honors in Seattle, Boston, Austin, and Phoenix.

Diana received a graduate degree in advanced Chinese painting studies from Nankai University. Her paintings and ceramic pieces have been admired and collected by art lovers and collectors across the country. Diana strives to mix Eastern and Western art in everything she creates, including oil and traditional Chinese painting, photography, fashion design, frescos, watercolors, calligraphy, poetry, sketches, ceramics, batik, and sculpture.

Passionate about the arts and cultural education, Diana became a principal of a Chinese language school in 1997, where she enjoyed cultivating arts appreciation in students. In 2005, she became a principal and art director of a private art academy, teaching students from ages 3 to 89. Instead of using traditional methods, Diana established her own teaching techniques to make drawing more interesting, and encouraged more room for curiosity, creativity, and development.

Diana began incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education as an art topic, challenging students to incorporate this theme into 2D and 3D art. In 2018, in recognition of one of her students placing first and Best in Show at the U.S. Congressional Art Competition, Diana received the national outstanding art educator award and had her student’s painting displayed at the U.S. Capitol for a year.

Diana actively volunteers with various local nonprofit organizations to promote the cultural arts. She brings programs that coordinate art and diversity throughout the community, from schools and libraries to senior centers, as well as diversity days at local companies. She has taught various art classes and workshops at local K-12 schools and universities, and has organized many student art exhibitions and art contests throughout the years to encourage excitement in arts education for the younger generations.

Diana also loves to dance, and has performed multiple times at local theaters and festivals. After moving to PebbleCreek with her husband, Bernard, in September of 2021, she started taking jazz, ballet, and tap classes. She enjoys traveling and draws deep inspiration from experiencing first-hand the original environments of great masters. In the past few years, her dreams have become a reality and she has visited Rembrandt’s art studio, Da Vinci’s castle, Michelangelo’s marble mountain, the fields from Van Gogh’s paintings, and Monet’s studio and his famous garden pond. When she’s not out exploring the other side of the world, she finds great joy in gardening at home, and continues to find ways to add color in her yard, just like in her paintings.

You can see Diana’s work displayed at the Creative Arts Center, the Tuscany Falls and Eagle’s Nest clubhouses, and online at dianahoart.com.
