On Friday, Aug. 14, Arnie Lawrence made a hole-in-one on the 12th hole of the West Course at Tuscany Falls. Were it not for certain circumstances, this perfect shot would not have officially counted.
On this day, the temps soared to 117 degrees. Arnie’s three playing partners decided to call it a day after finishing the front nine. Arnie decided to continue on and played the 10th and 11th holes by himself. While Arnie was putting out on the 11th hole, Dave Flynn drove up to the green to ask Arnie a question (Dave was playing in the threesome behind Arnie). He asked Arnie if he wanted to drop back and join his threesome. To make the invite more enticing, Dave told Arnie, “If you get a hole-in-one you will need witnesses.” Arnie accepted the invitation.
The 12th hole was playing 155 yards from the white tees. The pin was located on the front tier. Arnie hit his shot with a 4-hybrid straight at the flag with a good trajectory. The ball landed softly on the front of the green and rolled about 25 feet right into the hole. Arnie saw it go in. He immediately looked at Dave, chuckled and thought, “What a prophecy!” Todd Christenson and Bill Harrell also witnessed this amazing feat.
This was Arnie’s third hole-in-one. His first one came in 1987 at the Gilroy Golf Course in Gilroy, Calif. His second came in 2009 at Coyote Creek’s Valley Course in South San Jose, Calif.
Arnie was born in Michigan and raised in Santa Clara Valley in California. He graduated from Cal State San Jose, and taught Social Sciences at the high school level for 13 years. He was a staff member and manager at IBM for 22 years, before retiring to PebbleCreek in 2009. He has performed several volunteer functions for the PCMGA. He also served as a certified, volunteer representative for admissions to the U.S. Naval Academy, in their Blue & Gold organization, for 13 years.
Congratulations to Arnie on this spectacular feat, made official by Dave Flynn’s ability to see the future!
