The new season brings lots of action on the tennis courts. February 15 was the first inter-community tournament with Sun City West. 18 players and fans flooded in at 12:30 p.m. to check in and meet opponents to get ready for competition on the courts. Three doubles matches at three skill levels. The visitors nuked PC 66 to 25 in games, 8-1 in sets. Our win came with Craig Hauger and Dave Henry in A men’s doubles. Congratulations on your win! Thank you all for coming to cheer and support your fellow members that participated.
February 21 was our in-house social with competitive play. Partners were matched up for a round robin and continuing as each group won. Lunch was served after the first round; 18 feet of a variety of Subway sandwiches and plenty of refreshments. Winners of the tournament were Carole Mathias and Bruce Robinson, Dan and Jeanne Schimmelpfennig and Jim and Jill Lewis. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone for the effort!
Sunday, March 8 was our second inter-community tournament away at Sun City Grand. 18 players gave their best efforts but edged out by the home team. Final score was 62 to 40, 7-2 sets. Our winners were Dave Henry and Randy Planck in A men’s doubles and Jill and Jerry Santy in B mixed doubles. Congratulations to the winners and the hard working participants!
Friday, March 20 was the Luck of the Irish social. It was another great day of play, food, prizes and laughs!
Our next inter-community tournament is April 12 at Sun City West. We have another chance to come back for a rematch!
New club sponsored activities are being added all the time. Queen of Courts meets once a week to play competitively at the 3.5 level. Sign up on our website. Membership is required.
For those of you who want to come and play tennis on a trial basis we have several programs for you.
Men’s drop-in is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Eagle’s Nest courts. More information contact Ken Minichiello at 419-356-4010. Membership is not required.
Ladies drop-in is Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Eagle’s Nest courts and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Eagle’s Nest courts. More information contact JoAnne Braun at 480-370-7310. Membership is not required.
Thursday night mixed doubles is at 6:45 p.m. at Tuscany courts for 3.0 level players. The Comfort Court is held at the same time. For more information contact Bernadine Helriegel by Tuesday noon at [email protected]. Specify which program. Membership is not required.
Tuesday night mixed doubles is 5:30 on Tuscany Courts. Level of play is 3.5 plus. For more information contact Gretchen Carlos at 623-308-2935. Membership is required.
