When conditions in the valley heat up during summer, photographers tend to stay closer to home. The October photo of the month is an impressive closeup taken by club member Bob Stout in the Butterfly Habitat at the Desert Botanical Garden. Because of the 70-300mm zoom lens Bob was using, he did not have to “foot zoom” to get the close-up but let his lens do the work for him. The result was an impressive close-up of a very colorful butterfly, with the subject in sharp focus and a pleasing bokeh (soft-focus background).
