When conditions heat up during summer in the valley, pictures of cooler subjects are welcome. The August photo of the month is an impressive scene of Harvard Glacier taken by club member Lynn Warren while on a June “Solstice Cruise” along the coast of Alaska. This tidewater glacier is located in College Fjord (between Valdez and Seward) where many glaciers are named for Ivy League schools (notably, Princeton is missing). Harvard Glacier is the largest and somewhat unusual because it is advancing, bucking the trend since most glaciers are retreating.
