A fledgling Harris’s Hawk was found on March 28, 2026, by residents in the oleander underneath the palm trees between the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse and the Westwind Tavern, where the golf carts park near the driving range and hole 1 of the West Course.
These particular palm trees are used annually by the hawk parents to build their nests and raise their young. Unfortunately, palm trees make lousy homes for large bird nests. This means that we usually end up with fledglings on the ground in the March/April time frame. They fall out of the nest during windstorms, or when they start testing their wings by flapping. The room in the nest becomes very tight as the babies grow. Last year we had two fledglings end up on the ground here. Please be on the lookout in this area during the spring for hawk nestlings or fledglings on the ground.
The hawk was very healthy, but unable to fly yet, so he was taken to Fallen Feathers up by Lake Pleasant until he is ready to survive on his own, when they will release him.
