Park (south of PebbleCreek) to celebrate Neal’s milestone.
Lynn Warren
Neal Wring was born and raised in England but moved across the pond after college and became a U.S. citizen over 30 years ago. Before this, Neal hiked in other areas of the world, particularly the rocky crags of Scotland. He continued his hiking adventures in America even while settling into a career of information technology project management in the pharmaceutical industry, including marrying fellow worker Betty. After retirement, they left New Jersey for a life of leisure in PebbleCreek. Well, maybe not truly leisure since both are very active in the community and Neal is serving his second term as president of the hiking club, and has put his IT skills to good use by leading the club into the electronic age with a highly computerized system for scheduling and recording statistics for club hikes. On April 8, along with five fellow “B” hikers, Neal celebrated 8,000 miles with the club. Why not join the club and pursue your own milestones with a great group of people; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

Hiking Arnett Canyon and Picketpost

Picketpost Mountain is an impressive, imposing mountain located behind the Boyce Thompson Arboretum on the western edge of Superior. Although there is a very sketchy, challenging trail to the summit, there are other trails which are much easier. The City of Superior has invested a lot of money and effort to develop a system of trails known as L.O.S.T. (Legends of Superior Trail System). On April 2, five “B” hikers headed east on I-10 and US-60 to Superior and enjoyed a scenic 11-mile hike with only 1,000 feet of elevation gain; the hike started in Arnett Canyon and continued around Picketpost Mountain, and even included a short segment of the Arizona Trail. Why not join the club and experience areas such as this with a great group of people; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

A Fallen Giant on the Trail

Our hike in the Estrella Mountain Regional Park encountered a fallen saguaro at the upside of the trail. Truly a giant! To join our hikes, check out our website: pchikers.org. Saturday Hike at Lake Pleasant

Pleasant, part of the Maricopa County Regional Park system. Seven miles may be a little short for a “B” hike but guidelines for summer hiking (which started May 1) call for somewhat shorter, easier hikes to limit exposure and exertion during valley summer conditions. Conditions in the park were ideal with milder temperatures before the summer triple digits hit and the water was an impressive shade of blue. Although the park is in the process of reducing the number of wild burros, the hikers were entertained by several who obviously managed to avoid capture. The club offers hikes at different levels, even during the summer; visit pchikers.org for more information and photos.
