Triad Performing Arts is bringing Broadway nostalgia to PebbleCreek.
The holiday magic has barely settled at the PebbleCreek Theater following the milestone performance of the sixth annual Nutcracker Fantasy, a beloved tradition that once again transformed local talent into a dazzling spectacle of ballet and storytelling. Founders Kat and Brian Honsberger have spent over half a decade redefining community-based theater, proving that West Valley residents can enjoy high-quality performing arts that rival big-city productions without the long commute to Phoenix or Tempe. Now in its sixth year, Triad Performing Arts of Arizona is preparing to trade in the pointe shoes for poodle skirts as they bring a touch of Broadway nostalgia to the local stage.
The anticipation is already building for this May’s production of the classic musical comedy “Bye Bye Birdie.” This toe-tapping tribute to 1950s rock ’n’ roll and small-town charm represents the next chapter in Triad’s mission to elevate West Valley culture. Musical director Kat Honsberger emphasizes that these shows are a celebration of what the community can create together, fueled by the incredible passion and dedication of local performers. This upcoming production continues Triad’s unique tradition of multi-generational collaboration, often featuring a diverse cast ranging from 8-year-olds to retirees (including a few PebbleCreek residents!) sharing the same stage.
The sense of community that springs from these performances has become a cornerstone of local life. Last year’s holiday production saw more than 80 actors and dancers fill the theater for several sold-out shows, including a special preview performance for cancer patients from a local hospital, a touching testament to Triad’s community-first approach. Brian Honsberger, the nonprofit’s president, believes these shared experiences are the most valuable part of their work, fostering deep connections among participants and audiences alike.
While these productions offer immediate entertainment, they also serve as steppingstones toward a larger vision for the region. The Honsbergers, who also own the Kat’s Artist Tree in Goodyear, dream of partnering with West Valley cities to build a professional-grade performing arts center. They believe that with the abundance of local talent and a dedicated audience already in place, the final component of a complete cultural experience in the West Valley is the development of a permanent infrastructure. For now, Triad continues to prove that the West Valley is a place to shine, one show at a time. Tickets for “Bye Bye Birdie” are currently available at triadaz.org, where residents can also learn more about supporting Triad’s mission.
