Teen Challenge Lead Staff Member with students
P. Walton, J. Kotula
Come learn about Teen Challenge, a mission the PebbleCreek Community Church (PCCC) supports. We are pleased to welcome Doug Coats, Director, Greater Phoenix Men’s Center, to our Sunday, May 24 service at 9 a.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. Doug has been involved with Teen Challenge since his teenage years. Within the last decade he has been blessed to be able to devote himself to full-time ministry with Teen Challenge. He will be accompanied by a current student who will share his testimony.
Teen Challenge began in 1958 when Rev. David Wilkerson was led to New York City by a desire to reach teen gang members with the message of God’s love. Today, Teen Challenge is known throughout the world with 250 locations in the USA, and over 950 locations globally. Their mission “is to provide youth, adults, and families with an effective comprehensive Christian faith-based solution to life-controlling problems in order to become productive members of society.” Addictive behaviors are derailed giving spiritual and physical well-being a chance to thrive and grow. Such miraculous recoveries are considered the foundation of what occurs in their ministry.
Teen Challenge of Arizona began in 1965. The specific ministries vary from region to region. The Greater Phoenix Men’s Centers in Phoenix and Tucson offer residential recovery programs for men 18 and over and require a minimum 13-month commitment. In New River, the Christian Life Ranch Men’s Training Center also follows the residential program. Each man is guided on a holistic journey of recovery, helping them transform their lives through faith, compassion, and purposeful action. Similar programs are offered at Home of Hope in Casa Grande for women and women with children, and at Springboard Home for Girls in Tucson.
A Christ-centered and discipleship ministry is the model used as they work within the community. This compassionate, transformative program emphasizes the deep love and grace of God. Such a welcoming environment is the backbone that provides support and structure. This atmosphere is especially necessary in the initial months of recovery. Daily routines include studies that incorporate spiritual and practical life skills. These skills help the men gain freedom from addiction and learn how to lead productive post recovery lives. Regular chapel services enhance spiritual growth and fellowship, providing time for connection, reflection, and encouragement. The men also participate in community outreach as well as fundraising activities. Join us on May 24 to learn more.
