New 2.0 Timed Bowling Pin Competition

Arty Bartlett

March 20 was the new 2.0 Timed Pistol Competition for the Gun Club with 11 shooters in Centerfire and 16 in Rimfire. Rimfire was scored with the Lewis System. Thanks to everyone who helped make this new event a success!

A new 2.0 version, Timed ‘Bowling Pin’ Competition, was introduced this season. The outcome was based on a formula to determine the fastest time while hitting the most pins on a rather large, paper target. Don’t be fooled. The ‘large-ness’ of the target did not help you hit the pins better because you were also trying to get the best time and beat out the competition.

Outline: 10 printed bowling pins on a paper target like in actual bowling (the first pins are bigger but get smaller in perspective in the back) set at 10 yards. You get two targets so two chances at a better score if you totally mess up on one, 10 rounds each target; and a timer that goes off by your ear so you know when to start.

Let the jumpy nerves begin as you talk strategy in your head and notice you missed a pin but need to keep going with more self-talk in your head because you only have 10 bullets anyway! It seems there was A LOT of crazy self-talk going on with everyone.

This was not an easy competition! I think I overheard a few people ask, “Who thought this one up? But we sure had fun, and yes, we will be doing this one again!

Congratulations to:

Centerfire: 1st: Phil Batton, 2nd: Matt Thomann, 3rd: Eric Malier

Rimfire: First Tier: 1st: John Shaner, 2nd: George Bulfon, 3rd: Kirk Harrison; Second Tier: 1st: Wayne Zwak, 2nd: Tom Waind

We hope you will join us next fall after our six-month hot-weather hiatus.
