On March 9, the PebbleCreek Billiards Club (PCBC) traveled to the Sundance Community Center in Buckeye for their third matchup against the Sundance Billiards Club—an exciting 8-ball shootout played on two meticulously decorated 8-foot Brunswick tables with rich red felt.
Just like their last two encounters, PCBC once again delivered a commanding performance, sweeping both matches and winning 52 games to Sundance’s 13.
The opening match was a grueling, but fast paced, one-on-one 8-ball series: each of PCBC’s five players faced off against each of Sundance’s five players twice, for a total of 50 games, of short-rack 8-ball. PCBC surged ahead quickly with sharp shooting and steady play, ultimately securing a 37-13 win. Leading the charge were PCBC’s Lynn Warren and Dan Harris, who topped both teams by winning an impressive nine of ten games. PCBC’s Mark Mecklenburg and Joe Browner also shone, each winning eight of ten games.
In the second match, the format shifted to a ranked head-to-head setup, pairing players according to their first-match win totals. With time running short, each pair played three standard 8-ball games (15 games total). PCBC carried and even raised their momentum, winning all 15 games.
Though the scoreboard tilted heavily in PCBC’s favor, the four-hour morning was once again defined by far more than the score. Players from both clubs showcased excellent shot-making, displayed true sportsmanship, and continued friendships across the table. The friendly rivalry was spirited but gracious, with plenty of laughs and mutual respect.
Sundance will travel to PebbleCreek next month for a rematch—giving the hosts a chance to defend home turf and the visitors an opportunity to avenge defeat.
