Michael Choe
This seminar on March 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Fitness Studio, can help you learn injury prevention through martial arts. The benefit of the practice of Hapkido is that you will learn how to prevent injury because of bad balance when your muscles are getting weak. A simple accident like tripping on a rug or slipping on a wet floor can change your life. If you fall, you could break a bone, which thousands of older adults experience each year.
One injury prevention benefit of this seminar focuses on reducing falls and other accidents through home safety, exercises that emphasize balance training, and staying active to maintain strength and stability, as falls are a leading cause of serious injury in older adults. You will learn how to roll (break fall) your body when you fall, so you could prevent a severe injury. To make your core strong, it’s important to straighten your posture. You will learn how to straighten your body and how to stretch your body.
Situational Awareness: Be aware of surroundings, walk in well-lit areas, and avoid isolated spots to prevent encounters. Looking around you before you move to check your pathway. Using a cane provides benefits like improved balance, reduced fall risk, and less pain by offloading weight from injured or weak joints (hips, knees, ankles) to help you stay steady, active, and independent. You can use it as a weapon like a Bo, umbrella, mop stick, wooden sword, etc. These materials are a great protective weapon for you.
Meditation and Breathing: Breathing exercises work by activating the body’s relaxation response through slow, deep breaths, which stimulate the vagus nerve to calm the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and shift you out of fight or fight mode into a state of rest. This can improve oxygen flow and promote mental and physical well-being.
