The PebbleCreek Ukulele Club invites you to their Open House on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. in the Palm Room at the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. The club has been holding these annual Open Houses for a few years now and the response has been outstanding.
If you would like to know more about us and what we do, or want to try your hand at playing the uke, or just want to hear us play, please join us. We also welcome those who play other instruments that blend well with the uke such as guitar, harmonica, percussion, etc. If you are already a uke player and want to join a friendly group to jam and learn, we would especially like to welcome you.
The ukulele whose name means the “jumping flea” came originally from Portugal and was taken to Hawaii by immigrants who began making their instruments and sharing them with the Hawaiians. As they evolved over time, they became associated with Hawaii and their unique sound evokes images of palm trees, waves, and sand. Our club plays a variety of songs including Hawaiian, folk, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, oldies, and modern. We use tablets and laptops to access the huge amount of ukulele music available today on the internet.
If you don’t think you would make a uke player, we might surprise you. A short introduction and lesson will begin at the Open House, and we will have ukes for you to try. But if you just want to sit and listen or sing along, that’s fine too.
As you can see in the photo of our recent Holiday jam (with cookies!), we have a lot of fun. Hope you can join us!
