Ken Nelson Makes Hole-in-One During PCMGA Charity Tourney

Howie Tiger

On March 20 Ken Nelson made a hole-in-one on hole number 4 at Eagles Nest. He made it while playing in the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) charity fundraiser tourney that benefits U.S.Vets Phoenix, a local organization that takes care of vets seeking shelter and other assistance. As he made it during a PCMGA event, he now qualifies for the PCMGA annual hole-in-one prize.

The 4th hole was playing 121 yards from the white tees to a front pin-placement. His playing partners were Scott (William) Gray, Tom Mamrak, and Bob Taylor. Ken hit a smooth easy 8-iron straight at the hole. His ball took a slight bounce forward, rolled toward the hole, and disappeared. Scott said, “That might have gone in!”

As they drove up to the green, Scott said to Ken, “I don’t see any balls on the green. Take a look in the hole.” So, Ken looked and voila! The celebration commenced.

Playing golf for 70+ years, this was Ken’s third career hole-in-one. His first came in 1978 at the Daytona Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minn. His second ace came in 2014 at the El Tigre Golf Course in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Ken grew up in Roseville, Minn. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in education. He spent his 50-year career in sales in the printing and graphics industry in several locations around the USA.

Ken and his wife, Kay, moved from Aurora, Colo., to PebbleCreek in 2019.

Ken celebrated his hole-in-one at Sunrise Park with 150+ of his closest friends. Beverages and snacks were provided for the players who participated in the charity fundraiser event. Rumor has it that Ken made a nice donation to the charity as he did not have to buy drinks!

Congrats to Ken on his great and timely shot. The ace helped his team win Flight 3 of the tourney by less than one shot. Without his ace, they would not have cashed!

Lee Kitchel retrieves his hole-in-one shot

Lee Kitchel Makes Hole-in-One at Eagles Nest

Howie Tiger

On March 26, Lee Kitchel made a hole-in-one on hole number 8 at Eagles Nest. He made it while playing in his regular weekly golf group.

The 8th hole was playing 110 yards from the red tees to a front pin-placement. His playing partners were Charlie Kice, Ken Robinson, and Ed Stadjuhar, who were playing from the white tees. Prior to Lee hitting his tee shot, his partners had driven up to green. Lee hit his 8-iron straight at the hole, it bounced and disappeared. Ken threw up his arms and yelled, Hey, It went in!” The celebration began as Lee arrived at the green.

Lee had been a full member of the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) for 19+ years and played in several hundred events. While he no longer plays PCMGA events, he proudly maintains his Associate membership.

This was Lee’s second hole-in-one. His first one was on hole number 10 at Palm Valley Golf Course in 2008. He made it using a 5-wood from 175 yards.

Lee was born and raised in Seattle, Wash. He attended the University of Washington. He spent his 40+ year career in the Maritime industry working for stevedore companies and served as a longshore foreman.

In the Seattle area, Lee was a Regional All American in fast pitch softball. In 1971 his team won the city championship which had 108 teams competing.

Congrats to Lee on his terrific shot!
