It was a beautiful sunny day at 7 a.m. on March 30 when the Arizona Flats started their 62-mile Metric Century and Half Metric Century bicycle ride.

After months of planning and training, the group was eager to get started before the wind kicked up! This year we were again b lessed to have photographer Phil Carlson show up early (6:45 a.m.) to capture this great event of 55+ folks spinning their wheels on the roads in the west valley! The route was a figure 8 allowing the half metric riders to finish back at the Tuscany Falls clubhouse and the metric riders stop inside the gate 8 for refreshments and a bathroom break before continuing on.

We had a fast A group of three riders (pacing 16+ miles/hour): Laura Leno, Jim Morris, and Bill Simmons. Ten riders followed in the B group: Arlene Bruce, Todd Bruce, Deb Campbell, Marybeth Kahn, Reg Westgarth, Michelle Pirkl, Mike Levine, Walt Heitz, Jeff Furnia, and Tom Dlouhy. The 31 milers consisted of: Tim Wright, Bill Walker, Joyce Raidle, Nancy McDonald, Jim DeSena, Fred Carlson, Jack Coate, Ernie Coudert, Peter Diliberti, and Jerry DiLeonardo.

We had great food and many laughs at the potluck party at the Oasis Pool with some gag gifts thrown in for fun! Thanks to all who helped organize and support this successful PebbleCreek event! Until next year … keep the rubber on the road!
