After some unseasonably cool weather, April 6 turned out sunny and perfect for a gathering at Sunrise Park! Around 40 seasoned and new PebbleCreek Democratic Club members gathered in the balmy temperatures to enjoy good company, food, and fun at the park. The festivities began with mingling and conversation and continued with the consumption of delicious appetizers provided by the attendees. After eating their fill, members were treated to a fun trivia event created and led by club member Chuck Veltry. The theme was musical and covered a wide range of musical topics and history. Prizes of scratch lottery tickets were presented with a few of them turning out to be winners!
At the upcoming meeting in May, the club looks forward to hearing from the candidates for Goodyear City Council. The Mayor and Council are elected at large on a nonpartisan ballot and serve staggered four-year terms. The Mayor has a two-term limit and Council has a three-term limit. The city’s next candidate election will be held on Tuesday, July 30 for the purpose of electing three councilmember seats. The Goodyear Mayor, Joe Pizzillo, along with Councilmembers Wally Campbell, Brannon Hampton, and Vicki Gillis are not up for re-election until 2026. However, current Vice Mayor Laura Kaino is on the ballot.
Other individuals who have filed as candidates are Angie Amarillas, Benita Beckles, Tamara Floyd, Teri Roberts, and Trey Terry. The Democratic Club is looking forward to seeing these candidates in May and hearing of their plans and goals for our city should they be elected.
PebbleCreek Democratic Club usually concludes its meetings in May of each year, however because of the importance of this election year not only nationally but also locally, we are holding a meeting in June to get the most possible exposure to candidates for Maricopa County offices.
Candidates we hope to host at the June meeting include Tyler Kamp, candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff; Tamika Wooten, candidate for Maricopa County Attorney; Gregory Freeman, candidate for Maricopa County Assessor; David Mathew Sandoval, candidate for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors District 4; Tim Stringham, candidate for Maricopa County Recorder; and Dr. Laura Metcalfe, candidate for Maricopa County Supervisor of Schools. We look forward to hearing from these candidates for offices that are so important to our large county.
Mark your calendars for both Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, June 5 to be informed about your city and county candidates and their platforms.
The PebbleCreek Democratic Club meets on the first Monday of the month in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Our meetings are open and all are welcome.
