The end of March and the month of April were busy months for members of the PebbleCreek Italian American Club. The ll giorno di San Giuseppe (St. Joseph Day) celebration was postponed one week. St. Joseph is remembered by Italians for listening to the prayers of Sicilians (during the Middle Ages) suffering a drought. These Sicilians promised a giant feast to honor him. St Joseph answered and to this time St. Joseph is honored. If you remember, on March 19, 2015, Goodyear had a beautiful rain. Our club postponed the Sunrise Park celebration for one week and enjoyed the rainy day. With the celebration on March 26, PCIAC provided the Agua Fria Food Bank with $405 and 235 pounds of food in honor of St. Joseph.
At the business meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, the new board (President Ken Minichiello, Vice President Mary Flynn, Treasurer Bob Cleland, Secretary Pat Atkinson and Sergeant of Arms Rich Veleta) was in place. The new board had already met with its new committee members in starting to plan for the club’s fall activities and events.
Following the business meetings, club members enjoyed the Andiamo (Let’s Go) at the Accogliete/Welcoming home of Al and Rosemary Holmes. It was another evening of great wine, snacks, and conversation focusing on club members summer plans.
Over 55 club members and guests enjoyed another great Day at the Races on Monday, April 13. For one more time Joe Lupo, our chairperson, made all the arrangements and extended invitations throughout PebbleCreek to enjoy a great luncheon and the chance to win a little cash.
Club members extend to all PebbleCreekers the hope for a happy and healthy 2015 summer. There will be notices regarding the 2015 Poinsettia Ball during the summer. The Poinsettia Ball committee works throughout the summer to offer a magnificent ball to the PebbleCreek Community.
The PebbleCreek Italian American Club is open to all PebbleCreekers. Come and join us as a guest and meet some fun loving, social folks at our next meeting Wednesday, May 14, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. (socializing starts at 6:30 p.m.) in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.
