The Cincinnati Reds just became a sponsor for the PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association (PCSSA).
The Reds are a professional major league baseball team that holds their Spring Training right here at the Goodyear Ballpark. Here’s a brief history of this team:
1866-1896:
* An amateur team formed by lawyers.
* Originally called the Resolute Base Ball Club of Cincinnati.
* Name was changed to the Cincinnati Base Ball Club.
* Name was then changed to the Cincinnati Red Stockings due to the wearing of knickers with red knee socks.
* Became a fully professional team in 1869.
1890-1911:
* The Cincinnati Red Stockings left the American Association in 1890 to play in the National League.
* The press first shortened their usual nickname from “Red Stockings” to “Reds.”
1970-1976:
* In 1970, little known George “Sparky” Anderson was hired as manager, and the Reds embarked upon a decade of excellence, with a team that came to be known as “The Big Red Machine.”
* The Reds won back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976.
1990:
* A wire-to-wire World Championship season.
The Cincinnati Reds banner is on display at the Robson Field of Dreams.
