PebbleCreek won Low Gross in the 2020-21 Roadrunner Women’s Golf League for the first time since participating in the league since 2006!

The Roadrunner League is composed of eight golf clubs, six this past year due to COVID. Each club sends four two-women teams to play Best Ball. The league counts the Best Ball scores from the four two-women teams for each of the six matches during the season. The team with the lowest cumulative score wins the title.

The Low Gross title has been dominated by Briarwood Golf Club in Sun City West for the past five years. PebbleCreek was tied for first place with Briarwood halfway through the season, with each of the first three matches being within three strokes.

In the fourth match at Anthem Golf and Country Club, the Ironwood Course, PebbleCreek took a 15-stroke lead with its lowest score of the year.

The next match was at Briarwood. PebbleCreek fought hard to tie with Briarwood on their home course, and that gave PebbleCreek a 15-stroke lead going into the final match at Desert Mountain’s Chiricahua Course on March 15.

The final match was on the most difficult course of the season, with a slope rating of 139 and playing over 5,600 yards, low temperature, and the scores were high. For PebbleCreek, it had the feeling of a Solheim Cup final round. PebbleCreek was paired with Briarwood as the top two teams.

As each of the four two-women team matches were completed, the tension grew. After the first group finished, PebbleCreek’s lead was cut to 11 strokes. After the second group finished, the lead was down to nine. After the third group finished, the lead remained at nine. As the last group came to the 18th tee, everyone was anxiously watching and waiting for a sign of how they were doing. As they approached the green, Cindy Sota and Sheri Sears raised five fingers high in the air. They were up by five! It ended with PebbleCreek winning the league by 14 strokes!

The victorious 2020-21 Roadrunner team members are Andrea Dilger (co-captain), Sharon Hadley (co-captain), Amber Rivera, Ellen Enright, Mary Harris, Kathy Hubert-Wyss, Susan Slaughter, Monica Lee, Sheri Sears, Cindy Sota, Layne Sheridan, Suzanne Kanaly, and Marilyn Reynolds.

The 2020-21 Roadrunner League perpetual plaque is on display at the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop.

Congratulations on a great year! Go PebbleCreek!
